Silva Screen Records releases the TIM MORRISH score from one of this year’s most controversial television productions, THE JETTY.

When a fire tears through a property in a scenic Lancashire lake town, Detective Ember Manning (Jenna Coleman) must work out how it connects to a podcast journalist investigating a missing person cold case, and an illicit relationship between a man in his twenties and two underage girls.

But as Ember gets close to the truth, it threatens to destroy her life – forcing her to re-evaluate everything she thought she knew about her past, present and the town she’s always called home. As much a coming-of-age story as a detective thriller, The Jetty asks big questions about sexual morality, identity and memory, in the places that Me Too has left behind.

Tim Morrish describes his approach to the series.

“From early conversations with the writer, producers and director it became clear that we were aiming to create a score that had a strong sense of place and could link the audience to the lakeside town of ‘Hap’ where our story takes place. We wanted a score that highlighted the beauty of the landscape as well as unearthed the dark underbelly and history of events that have taken place there.

I created a theme performed on cello that could be recontextualized and adapted across the show that although initially beautiful, slowly grows darker as organic percussive elements start to break through. I worked very closely with the sound designer throughout the process and used recordings from set of the rigging and bells of the boat to create darker underscore and rhythmic textures to help with the growing sense of unease and investigative elements in the show.“

Based in the UK, Film and Television composer Tim Morrish has scored films that have been in competition at Cannes Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, and BAFTA amongst others. His work includes scoring the Netflix Series One Day, the Amazon Prime Series Fifteen Love, Eleven Film's BBC/Netflix Drama Red Rose, Sky's Brassic and Leanne Welham’s debut BAFTA nominated feature PILI.

Outside his scoring work he is one half of the duo Vanbur who's debut EP has been featured the Amazon Prime show Hanna, Netflix's Virgin River and Sky Max's The Rising as well as Spotify's 'The Most Beautiful Songs in the World' and 'Not Quite Classical' playlists. In 2020 their second release Falling Colour came out on the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label as part of their Project XI series.

Tim studied at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and film music at the National Film and Television school where he scored many award winning short films.

The Jetty (4 x 60’) is made by Firebird Pictures, one of BBC Studios’ owned production labels. It was created and written by Cat Jones, directed by Marialy Rivas (Young & Wild, Perry Mason, Princesita), and produced by Natasha Romaniuk. The executive producers are Elizabeth Kilgarriff, Cat Jones, Sarah Wyatt, Marialy Rivas, Jenna Coleman and Jo McClellan for the BBC. BBC Studios are handling international distribution.
